Seasonal hair care

Does your hair need protection from the sun?

Strong sun, heat, wind, swimming and repeated exposure can leave hair feeling drier and can make colour look less fresh. A few practical habits can help.

Think about sun care as part of the whole summer routine: UV exposure, heat, sea water, chlorine, wind and extra washing can all affect how your hair feels.

What sunny weather can change

Long periods outdoors can contribute to dryness and colour fade, particularly when hair is already coloured, lightened or porous. Holidays can add chlorine, salt water and frequent washing into the mix.

Simple ways to protect your hair

  • Wear a hat or cover the hair during long periods in strong sun.
  • Use hair products designed to support UV or colour protection when they suit your hair.
  • Rinse after swimming and do not leave chlorine or salt sitting in the hair longer than necessary.
  • Keep conditioning consistent if the lengths start to feel drier.
  • Reduce extra heat styling when the hair is already exposed to lots of environmental stress.

For coloured hair

Colour can look duller or fade faster when exposed to strong sun and frequent swimming. A colour-care routine and physical protection such as a hat can be especially useful.

Danielle’s professional tip

Holiday hair care does not need ten extra products. Start with physical protection, sensible cleansing after swimming, conditioning and less unnecessary heat.
