The best wash routine is the one that keeps your scalp comfortable and your hair manageable without washing simply because a fixed rule says you should.
There is no universal number
Some people feel best washing frequently, while others can comfortably leave longer between washes. Curly, dry, coloured, fine, oily and heavily styled hair can all behave differently.
Instead of copying someone else's schedule, pay attention to your scalp, roots and lengths.
Signs it may be time to wash
- Your scalp or roots feel oily or uncomfortable.
- Styling products have built up and the hair feels coated.
- Your hair has lost movement or feels difficult to refresh.
- Sweat or activity has left the scalp feeling in need of cleansing.
Can you wash too often?
Very frequent washing can leave some hair feeling dry, especially if the shampoo, water temperature or aftercare does not suit the hair. But washing less is not automatically healthier either.
Choose a gentle routine that cleans the scalp properly and follow with conditioning where your hair needs it.
Danielle’s professional tip
Judge your routine by how your scalp and hair respond. If your roots feel clean but your ends feel dry, the answer may be better product placement and conditioning rather than simply washing less.
